A Decade of Leadership: Susan Kasner to Step Down as Summit Board Chair

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope this message finds you and your families well.

After much thought and consideration, I have decided to step down as Board Chair at the end of this school year. Having been in this position since 2013, I know that it is time for a change.

Since 2013, the population of the school has increased by 30% and the budget has more than doubled. We have expanded our programs, adapted and changed our policies to meet the needs of our changing student population, revamped our administration and built a $16 million dollar gymnasium and creative arts centre.

And throughout all of this we navigated the COVID pandemic and its fallout. I am so proud of our community!

I am delighted that Dr Mitch Shiller will be taking over as Board Chair. He has many years of experience on a variety of boards, and as a local pediatrician, treats many of our students. I have no doubt that he is the right person to lead the school into its next phase, and the Board wholeheartedly supports him. It is the right time for me to step aside and allow new leadership to continue the important work of supporting our students, staff, and school community.

New leadership brings new ideas, renewed spirit and increased energy to the board. It has been an honour and a privilege to work with Herman and the administrative team, and to witness the dedication of our teaching and professional staff. Our Board members have been an incredible group to work with, and I will be forever grateful to them for making my job such

a pleasure. Together we have had many discussions and navigated many challenges, always with the best interests of the students at heart.

I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished in the last 12 years, and I am certain that Summit School will continue to reach new heights. Thank you for the confidence you placed in me and the Board, and for the privilege of serving as Board Chair. It has been an experience I will cherish forever.

I wish you all much success.

Susan Kasner
