A New Chapter for SCERT: Announcing the 2027 Conference

Montreal will host a major North American conference on the future of neurodivergent education, marking ten years of SCERT.

As the school year comes to a close, we are delighted to share some exciting news from the Summit community. In the spring of 2027, Montreal will host the SCERT 2027 conference, a North American gathering dedicated to the future of neurodivergent education.

For families who may be less familiar with it, SCERT is the Summit Centre for Education, Research, and Training, a research collaboration between Summit School and McGill University, co-funded by The Azrieli Foundation. For the past decade, SCERT has worked to turn research into real classroom practice, helping shape the kind of evidence-based teaching that supports our students every day.

The year 2027 marks an important milestone: SCERT's tenth anniversary. To celebrate, the conference is growing in a meaningful way. What began as a gathering focused on research is expanding to welcome everyone who plays a role in a neurodivergent young person's journey. The program is built around four pillars:

• Research: evidence-based strategies for neurodivergent youth

• Education: transforming classrooms through everyday practice

• Innovation: assistive technology and new digital tools

• Work Skills: building pathways to employment and more inclusive hiring

  
  

The idea at the heart of the conference is captured in its theme: "One room. Every voice." Over three days, researchers, educators, employers, and neurodivergent voices will come together to share what they have learned and to imagine what comes next. As the organizers put it, the future will not be built in silos.

For Summit families, this is a moment of real pride. The conference reflects the same commitment to our children that drives our school every day, and it places our community at the centre of an international conversation about how neurodivergent learners can thrive, in school and well beyond it.
