Dear Parents and Families,
Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year at Summit School! It is a pleasure to begin this new chapter together, and I want to extend a warm welcome to both our returning families and those joining us for the first time.
This year, Summit is proud to serve 671 students across our three campuses—Main, LHA, and TECC. Supported by more than 240 dedicated staff members, our students benefit from a team of professionals across disciplines, ensuring that their academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs are met in one cohesive community. We are also pleased to welcome back Dr. Arrunza, who continues to provide psychiatric services on a regular basis.
Summit remains a leader in education, training, and research. Through our long-standing partnerships with universities, students in psychology, education, and related fields complete their placements with us. Our SCERT Research and Assessment Center is now in its ninth year, and we are excited to host our annual international conference on November 14, welcoming world-renowned researchers Dr. Anna Remington and Dr. Jonathan Weiss. Families interested in attending can register via our website.
Our facilities continue to grow alongside our programs. The new Creative Arts and Education Centre is nearly complete and already enriching the experiences of students from all campuses. Looking ahead, we are planning the development of new junior and senior playgrounds, including a rooftop play area and garden. Over the summer, significant upgrades were made to classrooms, technology, and infrastructure, and we are grateful to our Parents’ Committee—led by President Wendy Garish—for their generous fundraising support.
Community engagement remains central to Summit. Our annual Golf Tournament will take place October 6 at Royal Montreal Golf Club, with last year’s event raising $223,000. We invite families to participate or consider sponsorship opportunities through our website.
I would also like to highlight two Ministry-directed policy updates: students may no longer use cell phones during class time, and we encourage staff and families to adopt “Mr.” or “Miss” when addressing staff members. Additionally, the Ministry has established a new Ombudsman process for complaints to ensure fairness and accountability.
We are also exploring a relocation for our TECC campus to Ville St-Laurent, with the goal of opening in fall 2026 pending approvals. This move would allow us to expand opportunities for students aged 16–21.
Finally, I am thrilled to share that Summit School has been officially recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2024–2027. This honor—bestowed on only 19 schools in Canada—acknowledges our commitment to innovation in teaching and learning, and we are especially proud to be the only school in Quebec serving neurodiverse students to hold this designation.
On behalf of the administration, I thank you for your continued trust and support. Together, we will make this school year a success for every student.
Warm regards,
Herman Erdogmus
Director General, Summit School
